On this day, each child is given the opportunity to express what they are grateful for (after lengthy conversation as to the meaning of the word), and these thoughts are recorded and included in art projects. As a group we also discuss how different families come together and share special meals and how our cultural differences most often share a common thread. To give our children a direct experience of this we created an invitation for each family to bring in a special dish reflecting their heritage, with a brief description of the dish’s importance along with a copy of the flag of the country of origin. Needless to say, this is one of our favorite celebrations, with the message of world commonality and unity.
