Dear Upstairs Families,
We are excited to welcome Ms. Alicia to our classroom. As we said goodbye to Ms. Soukaina before Winter Break, we knew there would be some changes on the horizon. The downstairs classroom has added a Montessori lead teacher, Ms. Sushma, who will be co-teaching alongside of Rosemary. This is wonderful news and has allowed Ms. Alicia to join our team full time. She recently completed her coursework and final papers in order to earn her Montessori certification. It is so amazing to add this level of knowledge to our classroom, and we look forward to the months ahead. The children have also shown excitement and welcomed Ms. Alicia as many already know her quite well. Please feel free to introduce yourself as she will be getting to know the Upstairs parents more each day.
We are in need of parent volunteers for laundry this month and the next coming months until June. We would like a Wednesday and Friday PM pick up if possible. We switch out the bathroom/hand cloths in the middle of the week, so it is helpful to have a Wednesday laundry helper. We do have a second set of all necessary items for the children, but this allows us to keep the wet towels from hanging around too long. It is also a wonderful practical life lesson as many children enjoy folding and helping put away the towels. I will place a laundry signup sheet above the children’s cubbies before the end of this week. Thank you in advance for your support.
This month’s studies include the continued exploration of birds, sprouts, landscape with water colors, and Asia. We will be celebrating the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, January 5th. We are happy to have Emily’s mother and grandmother join us to share their family’s culture with a lesson and a special treat. Emily’s grandmother is a retired teacher and is excited to share some fun activities with us for the Lunar New Year.
Finally, please help your child make 18 homemade Valentine’s Day cards. Have your child write their own name on the cards (with or without your help), but please do not write their classmate’s names—you may keep the cards generic. Bring these in a bag with their name marked on it the morning of February 14th. We encourage everyone to wear red, purple or pink. The children really enjoy these special celebration days as they diverge from their typical routine and enjoy just being together. It is in these moments that we grow and understand one another.
Ms. Kristine, Ms. Cyndi, and Ms. Alicia
