8 AM – 11:45 AM: Getting started with our day, we independently choose an activity or seek guidance from a Guide. Our classroom includes all the areas of a traditional Montessori classroom: Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Cultural, Science, Art, and Music. We may work independently or with a partner as long as we are being respectful to our classroom, Guides and each other (ie: we don’t bother anyone!). We set up and put our work away when done. We may choose to serve ourselves snack, making sure to wash hands first! Towards the end of work time, we break into two groups and are able to play in our play yard and garden for 45 minutes each.
11:45 AM – 1:30 PM: Circle Time: observing new lessons, enjoying our songs, stories, sharing, or perhaps a birthday ritual! Washing hands for lunch, setting our own table, and then respectfully thanking our precious Earth for our beautiful food.
Our Blessing: Thank you, Precious Earth, for this beautiful food that will nourish our bodies and help us grow. May people all over the world, and all living things have: good food to eat, a home to live in and many reasons to be happy! Namaste. (By Rosemary Rae)
We then enjoy our delicious, organic meal prepared with love by our chef. Some of us then go back outside, and some help set up for nap time!
1:30 PM – 3 PM: We set up nap pads and sleeping bags (available from school at cost), snuggle in for a story, and sleep or rest.
3 PM – 5 PM: We put our own beds away, wash hands, and enjoy an afternoon snack. We have the choice from a variety of Afternoon School activities with our classmates, and additional outside time.
5 PM – 6 PM: After putting materials away, we collect our art work to take home, then have story time until getting picked up by our families.
