Montessoir’s Approach for Practical Life

The Practical Life Area in the Upstairs and Downstairs Classroom are full of works designed to teach children how to care for themselves, their environment, and each other. This area includes water pouring, spooning, washing, transferring, arranging, polishing, and more. These works provide children with countless opportunities to practice their fine motor skills as well, yes, practical life skills!

These are simple skills that prepare the children for more advanced work—focus, concentration, time on task, and self-correcting errors. These are soothing skills that the both the “older” and “younger” children are also drawn to time and time again.
